Avalanche Awareness

Unless you are an expert, you should never be off piste without a qualified guide. On the BASS course we will train you how to use the life-saving safety equipment and procedures needed to rescue you or others should the unthinkable happen. Showing you how best to Respond – Survive – Save Lives in engaging and enjoyable scenarios practiced on the mountain.

Transceivers Searching: It is essential to wear a transceiver and know how to use it.

Probes: Learn how to use this vital piece of equipment to find others under the snow.

Shovels: Find out how to dig a snow evaluation pit and the best ways to evacuate someone buried under the snow.

Route planning: Discover how to spot the signs of possible avalanches and how to choose the safest slopes to enjoy the powder snow.

Your BASS Guides

All members of the BASS Team hold the highest qualification possible. Level 4 BASI and the prestigious ISTD including the European Mountain Safety module. They have many years of experience in all terrains and know the area and all the best spots better than anyone. Their awesome teaching abilities will have you feeling like a Freeride Hero in no time.

The Equipment

A safety rucksack containing a transceiver, shovel and probe is compulsory and available from local hire shops. Fat skis are the best solution if powder runs are available, but don’t go too fat. An all mountain ski with a rocker construction and some shape to them will work best. These can be rented for the day. Don’t turn up without your goggles and a spare under layer of clothing to swap out the sweaty one midday.

Inflatable ABS Bags are available from some suppliers, a good idea, but not essential.
