Val d’Isere The Resort
Has long been one of the most popular ski resorts, particularly with the Brits, for many reasons. Having started life way back in the 11th century as a village, rather than being purpose-built as a resort, it still has a traditional charm.
It has one of the longest seasons in the Alps – from December to May – and access to 300km of Espace Killy piste makes it a paradise for skiers and boarders of all levels. Its off-piste, too, has a reputation for being some of the world’s best.

Val d’Isère is one of the most iconic ski resorts in the French Alps. Its traditional stone-and-timber village has welcomed winter visitors for generations, while its altitude of 1,850 m and links with neighbouring Tignes provide exceptional snow reliability and access to 300 km of high-altitude skiing. It’s a combination that attracts first-time visitors and keeps others returning year after year.
Val d’Isère forms half of the renowned Tignes–Val d’Isère ski area, one of Europe’s finest high-altitude playgrounds. From wide beginner slopes and long cruising blues and reds to demanding black runs and some of the Alps’ most celebrated off-piste terrain, there is exceptional skiing for every level. Modern lifts and well-planned mountain infrastructure make it easy to cover the extensive ski area, with less time spent in queues and more time on the mountain. One of the resort’s most significant investments has been the redevelopment of the iconic Solaise sector, where a modern ten-person gondola with heated seats provides fast and comfortable access to one of Val d’Isère’s most popular skiing areas. From perfectly groomed pistes and famous black runs to long lunches on sunny mountain terraces, Val d’Isère combines serious skiing with a mountain experience that’s hard to beat.
Val d’Isère continues to invest in both visitor experience and sustainability. Alongside continual improvements to its lift network, the resort has significantly reduced its environmental impact by powering its fleet of piste groomers with HVO renewable fuel, cutting carbon emissions by around 90% compared with traditional diesel.
